Explain your turtle program to a 10-year-old
Practice: Saying who it's for. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your little brother (10) wants to know what your Python turtle program does. Write exactly 4 numbered lines, each under 15 words, one per step in the order the program runs, with the last line saying what the final picture looks like. He doesn't know coding words, so don't use loop, function, variable, range or parameter. No code blocks, under 70 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Coding words. The AI explains with 'loop' and 'function', which a 10-year-old won't follow. Try: Add: "Don't use the words loop, function, variable, range or parameter."
- A line-by-line walkthrough. The AI explains every line of code instead of what you see happen. Try: Say: "Exactly 4 numbered steps, in the order it runs, each under 15 words."
- No picture at the end. Kids want to know what they'll see. Try: Add: "Last line: what the final picture looks like."
- Code in the answer. The AI quotes the code back. Try: Add: "No code."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says who it's for
- Bans coding words
- Sets the number of steps
- Asks for the final picture
- Caps each line
