Write a collections call script that separates the disputed amount
- For Accountants
- You practice Giving the right context
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
You're calling a customer about an overdue invoice, part of which is under dispute. Write a prompt for a three-line phone script labeled "Open:", "Ask:" and "Close:", plain text, under 80 words in total. Ask only for the undisputed amount, say the disputed amount is being reviewed, and ask for a payment date. No threats and no mention of collections agencies.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for the full amount. The AI asks for $2,300 and ignores the dispute. Try: Say: "Ask only for the undisputed $2,000."
- Promising the credit. The AI says the $300 credit is coming. Try: Add: "Say it is being reviewed. Don't promise the credit."
- Missing names. The AI opens with 'Hello, this is the AR department'. Try: Add: "Rosa from Accounts Receivable calling Tony Delmar."
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each line short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the labels
- Splits disputed amount
- Avoids promising credit
- Bans threats
- Caps length
