Brief an assistant to plan study blocks around your week
- For College students
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You want an AI assistant to put study blocks on your calendar for a busy week. Write its brief: use only the free windows listed, no block longer than 90 minutes, nothing after 10 p.m., at least two Chemistry blocks before Thursday's exam, and never move or delete your classes or work shifts. Output exactly 7 numbered plain-text lines: 6 create_block lines, then a DONE line.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not showing the log format. Left alone, the AI writes a friendly report with headings instead of a checkable action log. Try: Show it literally: "Format every line like 1. ACTION: tool(args), then ASK_HUMAN: and DONE: lines. Plain text."
- No time limits. The AI books three-hour marathons and late-night sessions. Try: Add: "Each block 90 minutes max, only in the free windows, nothing after 10 p.m."
- Not naming the priorities. The AI spreads time evenly instead of front-loading the exam. Try: Add: "At least two Chem blocks before Thursday's exam. Each task before its due time."
- Letting it move fixed events. To make room, the AI may shift a class or shift without asking. Try: Add: "Never move or delete classes or shifts."
What a strong prompt includes
- Caps block length
- Sets a cut-off time
- Front-loads the exam
- Sets what not to touch
- Shows the action-log format
