Brainstorm plot twists that follow your story's own rules
- For College students
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You're stuck on the twist for your fantasy story. Get exactly 4 numbered twist ideas, each formatted "1. Twist: ... | Planted clue: ...", where the clue is something already in your chapter notes. Each idea under 35 words, under 200 words in total, plain text. Every twist must obey your world's rules, and skip the twist types your workshop banned.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Breaking your world's rules. The AI's favorite twists include resurrection and time loops, which your chapter 1 rules out. Try: Add: "Every twist must obey my rules: no bringing back the dead, no time travel."
- Twists out of nowhere. The AI invents new secrets, so the twist feels unearned. Try: Add: "Each twist must pay off one of my planted clues; name it."
- Getting the banned twists. 'It was all a dream' and 'the narrator was dead' show up in most AI twist lists. Try: Add: "No dream twist and no dead-narrator twist."
- No shape. The AI writes a paragraph per twist with pros and cons. Try: Show it: "1. Twist: ... | Planted clue: Ch 3, Hale's salt ration"
- Forgetting where it's going. AI adds bold and headings that show up as stray symbols in your notes. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."
