Accept a job offer and confirm the exact terms
Practice: Keeping the AI to your sources. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're accepting a job offer by email. Keep it under 80 words, plain text: accept in the first sentence, then confirm the title, salary and the updated start date exactly as agreed, then ask one question about first-day logistics. Don't renegotiate or mention other offers, and don't add a long thank-you paragraph. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 80 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead: "4 sentences, each under 18 words."
- Burying the yes. The AI opens with a long thank-you before accepting. Try: Add: "First sentence: I accept."
- Using the first terms. The original offer lists $56,000 and Dec 1; the follow-up changed both. Try: Add: "Confirm $59,000 and Monday, Dec 8."
- Too many questions or extras. The AI asks several questions or mentions cancelling the other interview. Try: Add: "One logistics question. Don't mention other interviews."
- Ignoring where it will be pasted. AI loves bold and headings, which show up as stray ** and # symbols in the email. Try: Name the place and the format: "For the email. Plain text, no bold or headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Accepts first
- Uses the updated terms
- Asks one question
- Leaves out other interviews
- Sets a word limit
