Announce a promotion with the right date and no pay details
Practice: Giving the right context. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're announcing an internal promotion to the department. Write it in under 60 words, plain text, with the person, new title and corrected effective date in the first sentence, then what they'll own in the new role, then who takes over their old work. Leave out pay and anything about other candidates.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the original date. Feb 2 appears first, and the correction is easy to miss. Try: Add: "Effective Monday, Feb 16 (corrected)."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead: "3 sentences, each under 18 words."
- Skipping the practical details. The AI celebrates but forgets what changes for everyone else. Try: Add: "Say what she'll own and that Ravi takes escalated billing tickets."
- Sharing private details or hype. The AI may mention other applicants or pile on exclamation points. Try: Add: "No pay or other candidates. Low-key, one exclamation point at most."
- Formatting the post. The AI adds bold names and a heading. Try: Add: "Plain text, one short paragraph."
What a strong prompt includes
