Announce a new weekend rotation in three clear rules
Practice: Giving the right context. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're changing how weekend shifts are assigned, and you're posting it for the warehouse team. Write one sentence with the start date, then exactly 3 numbered rules, then one line on who to talk to about conflicts, plain text, under 80 words. Use the final version of each rule, and leave out the options that were rejected.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for 'an announcement'. The AI writes paragraphs with headings, background on the vote and every detail. Try: Be exact: "One opening sentence, exactly 3 numbered rules, one closing line. Plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead: "each line under 16 words."
- Using the earlier rule. The 4-week posting rule appears first, with the change below it. Try: Add: "The schedule is posted 6 weeks ahead (the Oct 6 change)."
- Leaving out who to ask. The AI ends with 'let me know if questions' and nothing specific. Try: Add: "Last line: recurring conflicts, talk to me privately."
- Forgetting the start date. The AI explains the rules but not when they begin. Try: Add: "Open with: starts Nov 7-8."
What a strong prompt includes
- Gives the start date
- Uses the final rules
- Sets the number of rules
- Says who to talk to
- Sets a word limit
