Write three tones of an account-verification macro
- For Customer support teams
- You practice Showing an example of what you want
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Write the same account-verification macro in three tones, as exactly three lines starting "Friendly:", "Formal:" and "Short:". Each uses the merge fields {{first_name}} and {{ticket_id}}. Each asks only for the account email and the last 4 digits of the phone number. Plain text, under 100 words in total.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Copying the retired macro. The old macro asks for a password and the AI reuses its idea. Try: Say: "Never ask for passwords, card numbers or codes."
- Wrong merge fields. The AI copies {{name}} and {{ticket}} from the old macro. Try: List them: "Use only {{first_name}} and {{ticket_id}}."
- Asking for something else. The AI adds extra proof such as date of birth. Try: Say: "Ask only for the account email and last 4 digits of the phone."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
