Answer a price-increase objection without discounting
- For Customer success managers
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Write the reply to Carlos. First line exactly "Hi Carlos," and last line exactly "Naomi, Customer Success". Show the 7% increase math and then the 2-year option with its 5% discount, each as a one-line calculation. Offer no other discount. Plain text, under 110 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Hinting at more discounts. The AE note says to say we can probably reduce it. Try: Add: "Offer no other discount or hint of one."
- No calculations. The AI says 'a modest increase' without numbers. Try: Say: "Show each price as a one-line calculation."
- Missing exact lines. The AI writes 'Dear Carlos' and 'Best'. Try: Give both exactly.
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
