About this exercise
You're spot-checking the AI writing coach's comments on student drafts. The district limit for next steps is 2, so a comment with 3 or more fails C2. Grade the 4 comments in exactly 4 numbered lines: '1. PASS' or '1. FAIL - C2 - "exact words from the comment"', naming the first criterion it fails. Plain text, under 90 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not giving the limit. C2 just says 'the district limit', and the AI guesses a number or passes Comment 2. Try: Tell it: "The limit is 2 next steps. 3 fails C2."
- No evidence behind a FAIL. The AI writes 'fails C1' without showing the words. Try: Say: "Quote the exact words from the comment that fail it."
- Rewrites instead of grades. The AI suggests better comments instead of grading them. Try: Show the shape: "2. FAIL - C2 - \"quote\"", no rewrites.
- Getting markdown back. AI defaults to bold verdicts and a table. Try: Ask for "plain text, no bold, no tables."
What a strong prompt includes
