Summarize the FY27 headcount plan for the CFO
- For FP&A and financial analysts
- You practice Saying who it's for
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Your CFO, Ruth, wants the FY27 headcount plan before her budget meeting. Start with one line giving total net new hires and their full-year cost, then at most 4 bullets, one per department, each showing hires × loaded cost = total. Include the latest change to Sales. Plain text, under 100 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the table's total. The AI copies +17 from the table and misses the Oct 30 change. Try: Add: "Apply the Oct 30 change: Sales is +4, so recompute the total."
- No working shown. The AI gives department totals Ruth can't check in the meeting. Try: Show the shape: "- Engineering: 8 × $180,000 = $1.44M"
- Burying the headline. The AI opens with context about the draft, not the number Ruth needs. Try: Say: "First line: total net hires and full-year cost."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs long, adding lists and formatting you didn't ask for. Try: Cap each part ("each line under 15 words") and state the format: "plain text, no bold."
What a strong prompt includes
