Email the CEO about a hiring timing change with the dollar effect
- For FP&A and financial analysts
- You practice Saying who it's for
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
You're sending a short note about a hiring plan change. Write a prompt for a plain-text email that starts with "Hi Rae," and has three lines starting "Change:", "This year:" and "Next year:", then ends with the line "Ilan". The This year line shows the math. Label anything unconfirmed. No recommendations. Under 80 words. No bullets or numbering.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Treating the saving as permanent. The AI says the move saves $60,000 every year. Try: Add: "Next year: the full-year cost is unchanged."
- Stating acceptances as fact. The AI says both candidates accepted. Try: Add: 'Label the candidates\' acceptance "unconfirmed".'
- Wrong greeting or sign-off. The AI signs 'FP&A' or uses a long closing. Try: Add: 'Start with "Hi Rae," and end with the line: Ilan.'
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each line short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the greeting and lines
- Shows the saving math
- Labels unconfirmed
- Bans recommendations
- Caps length
