Report the hiring pipeline in one line per role
Practice: Asking for a format you can use. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Leadership wants a weekly hiring update. Write exactly 3 numbered lines, one per open role, each as 'Role: applied / interviewing / offers - next step', plain text, under 70 words. Put the role that's behind its target first, use the corrected counts, and leave out candidate names.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for 'a hiring update'. The AI writes a section per role with headings and candidate details. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 3 numbered lines 'Role: applied / interviewing / offers - next step'. Plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line instead: "each line under 18 words."
- Keeping the data order. The AI follows the notes, but leadership wants problems first. Try: Add: "Put the role behind target first."
- Using the old count. 1 offer appears first, with the correction below it. Try: Add: "CDL Driver has 2 offers (corrected)."
- Naming candidates. Names are in the data, and the AI keeps them. Try: Add: "No candidate names."
What a strong prompt includes
