Turn biology notes into printable flashcards

Practice: Asking for a format you can use. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

Your AP Biology quiz on cell transport is Friday, and you want flashcards you can print and cut out. You need exactly 8 numbered lines, each in the form 'term: definition' with the definition under 12 words, plain text, and nothing else on the page. The cards must include the 3 terms your teacher starred, and use only your notes, including the correction your teacher made.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Not saying how many cards. The AI turns every line of your notes into a card, so you get 14 or more when you wanted a quick set. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 8 numbered cards."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each card instead: "each definition under 10 words."
  • Letting the AI pick the layout. AI likes Front/Back blocks with bold labels, which take up a whole page and don't cut into cards. Try: Show the shape: "One line per card, like 'osmosis: diffusion of water across a membrane'."
  • Skipping the starred terms. The AI doesn't know the stars mean 'on the quiz', so it may pick other terms for your 8 cards. Try: Say it: "Must include the 3 starred terms."
  • Missing the correction. The crossed-out line is still in your notes, and the AI may copy the wrong fact onto a card. Try: Add: "Use only my notes, and where my teacher corrected something, use the correction."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Says how many cards
  • Shows the card shape
  • Mentions the starred terms
  • Limits each definition
