Plan bedtimes around your finals schedule
- For College students
- You practice Showing an example of what you want
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You want 8 hours of sleep every night of finals week and to wake 90 minutes before each exam. On days with no exam, wake at 8:00 AM. Get exactly 5 numbered lines, Mon to Fri, each like "1. Mon: wake 7:30 AM (exam 9:00 AM), bed 11:30 PM Sun", using the moved Wednesday exam. Plain text, under 90 words, no study tips. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Missing the moved exam. The AI uses the 2:00 PM Calculus time from the schedule. Try: Add: "Calculus moved to Wednesday 10:00 AM."
- Not stating the rules. The AI picks its own wake and bed times or suggests an all-nighter. Try: Add: "Wake 90 minutes before each exam, 8:00 AM with no exam, bed 8 hours before waking."
- Getting study tips. The AI adds advice about caffeine, review sessions and breaks. Try: Show it: "Exactly 5 lines like: 1. Mon: wake 7:30 AM (exam 9:00 AM), bed 11:30 PM Sun". No tips.
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 90 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "each line under 14 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Uses the moved exam
- States the rules
