Brainstorm replies to "too expensive" in your best rep's style

Practice: Showing an example of what you want. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

Your reps keep hearing "Fieldnote is too expensive." You want exactly 5 numbered replies they can say on a call, in the style of your best rep's line: "Expensive compared to what? How many jobs did you reschedule last month?" Each reply must open with a question back to the buyer, use only approved proof points from the battlecard, and never offer or hint at a discount. Keep the list under 100 words, plain text, with no intro or explanations. Write a prompt that gets those 5 replies.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Asking for "help with price objections". The AI writes a general sales lesson with headings and frameworks instead of lines a rep can say. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 5 numbered replies a rep can say out loud."
  • Describing the style instead of showing it. "Make them conversational" means something different to the AI. It defaults to long, polished pitches. Try: Paste your best rep's line and say "Match this style: open with a question back to the buyer."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 100 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead, like "each line under 14 words," so the total lands well under 100.
  • Letting it use any claim on the page. The AI grabs the most impressive numbers, including the ones legal hasn't approved, and sometimes invents new ones. Try: Add: "Use only the approved proof points. No other numbers."
  • Not ruling out discounts. Sales advice from AI often ends with "offer a limited-time discount", which breaks your policy. Try: Add: "Never offer or hint at a discount or free months."

What a strong prompt includes

  • Says how many replies
  • Shows an example
  • Opens with a question
  • Limits claims to approved ones
  • Rules out discounts
