Prepare your notes for a first therapy session

  • For Nurses and healthcare workers
  • You practice Saying who it's for
  • Time about 5 minutes

About this exercise

You have your first therapy appointment and want to walk in with a short list. From your journal notes, get exactly 3 numbered lines, each like "1. Topic: what happened, from my notes", picking the 3 things you wrote you most want to talk about, then one line starting "My goal:" in your own words from the notes. Don't label or diagnose anything, and add no advice or coping tips. Under 90 words, plain text. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Picking the topics for you. The AI chooses what seems most serious, like the brother, instead of what you said you want. Try: Add: "Use my own top 3 from the notes."
  • Labeling your feelings. The AI echoes Tasha and calls it burnout, which is for you and your therapist to explore. Try: Add: "Don't name any condition. No advice or coping tips."
  • Losing your words. The AI rewrites your goal in therapy-speak. Try: Add: "My goal: use my own words from the notes."
  • Getting a long reflection. The AI writes paragraphs and headings that are hard to glance at in session. Try: Say: "Exactly 3 numbered lines, then My goal. Plain text."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 90 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "each line under 16 words."

What a strong prompt includes
