Answer your CMO's campaign question in one Slack message
Practice: Saying who it's for. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your CMO, Elena, asks in Slack which October email campaign had the best signup rate. She reads on her phone and only wants numbers she can trust, so check the notes under the table. Put the answer first (campaign name and signup rate), then at most 2 bullets of context, under 60 words in total, plain text, with no intro or sign-off. Write a prompt that gets her that reply.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking the AI to "analyze" the results. You get a full report with a table, headings and five insights, when Elena asked one question. Try: Say who it's for and what goes first: "Answer Elena's question in the first line: campaign name and signup rate."
- Trusting every row of the table. The AI sees 4.0% and crowns Black Friday, missing the note that its numbers were double-counted. Try: Add: "Exclude any campaign the notes flag as unreliable, and say why."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 60 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part instead, like "each line under 15 words," so the total lands well under 60.
- Formatting for a desktop report. AI adds bold, headings and tables. On Elena's phone in Slack they show up as symbol clutter. Try: Add: "For Slack on a phone. Plain text, no bold, no table, no intro or sign-off."
