Compare COBRA with a marketplace plan by monthly cost
- For Job seekers
- You practice Showing an example of what you want
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You lost your job and must pick health coverage for the next 6 months while you search. Get exactly 3 numbered lines in plain text, under 80 words: 1. COBRA's 6-month cost with the math; 2. the marketplace plan's 6-month cost with the math, using the subsidy; 3. which costs less over 6 months and by how much. Use the corrected subsidy and add no advice. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the old subsidy. The AI uses the $260 estimate and misses the Nov 4 update. Try: Add: "Use the updated $210 subsidy."
- No math shown. The AI gives totals without the working. Try: Show it: "1. COBRA: $612 x 6 = $[total]".
- Getting advice. The AI weighs deductibles and doctors and tells you what to pick. Try: Add: "Line 3 only says which costs less and by how much. No advice."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 80 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "each line under 20 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Uses the updated subsidy
- Shows the math
- Rules out advice
