Compare movers and a rental truck after reimbursement
- For Job seekers
- You practice Showing an example of what you want
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You accepted a job in another city and your new employer reimburses some moving costs. Compare hiring movers with renting a truck. Get exactly 3 numbered lines in plain text, under 80 words: 1. movers, total minus reimbursement = your cost; 2. truck, same shape; 3. which costs you less and by how much. Use the corrected reimbursement cap and add no advice. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the old cap. The AI uses the offer letter's $2,000 and misses HR's correction. Try: Add: "Use HR's corrected cap of $1,500."
- Missing what's eligible. The AI subtracts the full cap from the truck total, though fuel and helpers aren't covered. Try: Add: "Only the rental charge is reimbursed, not fuel or helpers."
- No math shown. The AI gives the costs without the subtraction. Try: Show it: "1. Movers: $3,000 - $1,500 = $1,500".
- Getting advice. The AI echoes your dad and weighs comfort and time. Try: Add: "Line 3 only says which costs less and by how much. No advice."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 80 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "each line under 16 words."
