Text your mom a calm plan after a scam phone call
- For Parents and households
- You practice Saying who it's for
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
Your mom got a call from someone claiming her grandson is in jail and needs bail in gift cards. Write her a text under 60 words in plain text. The first sentence tells her not to send any money or gift cards. Tell her to hang up and call Josh on his real number, 555-0144, which she has. Keep it calm and simple for a 78-year-old. End with "Love, Dana". Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Burying the warning. The AI opens with comfort or an explanation, so the most urgent part comes late. Try: Say: "First sentence: don't send any money or gift cards."
- Writing a scam lecture. The AI explains how grandparent scams work, which is too long for a flustered reader. Try: Add: "Under 60 words. Just what to do now."
- Not saying who reads it. Without knowing she's 78 and flustered, the AI writes long, formal sentences. Try: Add: "She's 78 and gets flustered. Short, calm sentences."
- Leaving the steps vague. The AI says "verify with family" instead of giving the exact call to make. Try: Add: "Tell her to hang up and call Josh at 555-0144."
What a strong prompt includes
- Puts the warning first
- Gives the exact next step
- Says who reads it
- Sets the sign-off
- Sets a word limit
