Compare two summer camps for two kids
- For Parents and households
- You practice Showing an example of what you want
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You're comparing two day camps for your two kids for 4 weeks. Get exactly 3 numbered lines in plain text, under 80 words: 1. Camp A's total with the math, applying its sibling discount; 2. Camp B's total with the math, including registration fees; 3. which costs less and by how much. Today is November 6, so use the right price. No advice. Write a prompt that gets you exactly that.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the expired early-bird price. The AI grabs the lower $275 rate though the November 1 deadline has passed. Try: Add: "Today is November 6, so the early-bird rate is gone."
- Missing fees and discounts. The AI compares weekly rates, like your sister, and forgets registration and the sibling discount. Try: Say: "Include Camp A's sibling discount and Camp B's registration fees."
- No math shown. The AI gives totals with no working, so you can't check them. Try: Show it: "1. Camp A: $300 x 4 = $1,200 + ($1,200 - 10%) $1,080 = $2,280".
- Getting advice. The AI weighs pros and cons and nudges you toward one option. Try: Add: "The last line only says which costs less and by how much. No advice."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for "under 80 words" and it often lands well over. Try: Cap each part: "each line under 22 words."
What a strong prompt includes
- Skips the expired price
- Counts fees and discounts
