Turn a kickoff thread into a five-line campaign brief
Practice: Asking for a format you can use. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're writing the brief for Fernhill Pottery's spring class campaign so the freelance designer can start Monday. You need exactly 5 lines labeled Goal:, Audience:, Message:, Channels: and Deadline:, in that order, each under 15 words, under 70 words total and plain text. Use the final decisions in the thread, not the first ideas.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for "a campaign brief". The AI writes a full template with 10 sections, many filled with guesses. Try: Set the shape: "Exactly 5 labeled lines: Goal, Audience, Message, Channels, Deadline."
- Using the first ideas. The thread opens with TikTok and March 1, and the AI keeps them. Try: Add: "Use the final decisions: no TikTok, live by March 8, 48 seats by March 31."
- Keeping every side note. AI builds in couples and the studio cat because they're interesting. Try: Add: "Audience is first-timers 25-45. Skip side ideas like the cat."
- Trusting the AI to count words. Briefs run long, and AI miscounts. Try: Cap each line: "Each line under 12 words."
- Getting markdown. Labels come back in bold under a heading. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold or headings."
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the 5 lines
- Sets a length
- Uses the final decisions
- Leaves out side notes
- Asks for plain text
