Label churned accounts by their main reason
Practice: Asking for a format you can use. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
You're preparing churn data for a quarterly review. Write exactly 5 numbered lines, one per churned account in the order listed, each as 'Account - Reason - short quote', where Reason is exactly one of Price, Missing feature, Support, or Business closed. Plain text, under 90 words. Use the account's own words for the quote, not the sales rep's guess.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking to 'analyze the churn'. The AI writes paragraphs and its own theories about why customers left. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 5 numbered lines, 'Account - Reason - short quote'. Plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line instead: "each line under 16 words."
- Inventing labels. Greenway doesn't fit neatly, so the AI makes up 'Acquisition' or 'Other'. Try: Add: "Reason is exactly one of: Price, Missing feature, Support, Business closed."
- Trusting the rep's guess. Rep notes look authoritative, and the AI may use them. Try: Add: "Use the account's own words. If the rep disagrees, the account wins."
What a strong prompt includes
- Fixes the labels
- Uses the account's words
- Shows the line shape
- Sets the number of lines
- Asks for plain text
