Write the top three open launch risks with owners
Practice: Asking for a format you can use. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your launch review needs the top open risks. Write exactly 3 numbered lines in the form 'Risk - High, Medium or Low - mitigation - owner', plain text, under 90 words, using the likelihood your team assigned. Skip the risk that's already resolved, and don't invent mitigations or owners.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for 'a risk list'. The AI writes a table or a long risk section, adding its own risks. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 3 numbered lines 'Risk - likelihood - mitigation - owner'. Plain text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line instead: "each line under 22 words."
- Listing resolved risks. The payment risk is still in the list, with RESOLVED on a second line. Try: Add: "Skip the payment risk; it's resolved."
- Changing your ratings. The AI re-rates risks by its own judgment. Try: Add: "Use the likelihood and owners from my notes. Invent nothing."
What a strong prompt includes
- Shows the line shape
- Skips resolved risks
- Uses your ratings
- Sets the number of risks
- Sets a word limit
