Turn Cold War notes into cause-and-effect pairs
Practice: Asking for a format you can use. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your US History test asks you to link Cold War events to their effects. Get exactly 4 numbered lines in the form 'Cause -> Effect', in time order, each under 18 words, plain text. Use only your notes, with Ms. Whitfield's correction about the Berlin Airlift, and include the Cuban Missile Crisis pair she said is on the test.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Asking for a summary. The AI writes a narrative of the Cold War, not pairs you can match on a test. Try: Show the shape: "Cause -> Effect".
- Not saying how many pairs. The AI picks its own number, and it usually picks more pairs than you need. Try: Be exact: "Exactly 4 numbered pairs."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each line: "each line under 15 words."
- Missing the must-have pair. The AI picks whichever pairs it likes and may skip the one your teacher said is on the test. Try: Add: "Must include the Cuban Missile Crisis pair."
- Missing the correction. Your wrong note about an invasion is still in the material. Try: Add: "Use Ms. Whitfield's correction about Berlin."
What a strong prompt includes
- Says how many pairs
- Shows the pair shape
- Names the must-have pair
- Uses the correction
- Sets a length limit
