Plan a study-group finder app in 4 testable steps
- For College students
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You're building a study-group finder for your dorm with an AI app builder. Write exactly 4 numbered build steps, each 'Step: what to build | Check: what you click and see'. Step 1 uses made-up sample groups and no login, and each step adds one thing. Leave out the features your RA said not to build. Plain text, no code blocks, under 170 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Starting with login. AI builders often begin with sign-in, which slows you down. Try: Add: "Step 1: sample groups, no login. Login comes later."
- Steps you can't test. The AI writes 'set up the backend' with nothing to click. Try: Add: "Each step has a Check: what I click and see."
- Building banned features. The AI adds messaging and ratings because similar apps have them. Try: Add: "No direct messages, room numbers or ratings."
- A tutorial with code. The AI writes database code for each step. Try: Say: "4 numbered lines, no code blocks."
What a strong prompt includes
- Asks for small steps
- Starts with sample data
- Asks for checks
- Rules out banned features
- Caps the length
