Adapt one ad image to 3 sizes with Midjourney
Practice: Asking for a format you can use. About 5 minutes.
About this exercise
Your ad for Harbor & Pine sunscreen needs the same scene in 3 placements. Get Claude to write exactly 3 numbered Midjourney prompts, plain text, under 220 words in total: feed (--ar 1:1), portrait feed (--ar 4:5) and Story (--ar 9:16). All 3 must repeat the same scene description word for word, and each must end with its own --ar and the same --no list. In the 9:16 one, the top and bottom 15% stay empty for Instagram's overlays.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- One prompt for all sizes. The AI writes a single prompt, and cropping it to 9:16 cuts off the product. Try: Add: "Exactly 3 numbered prompts: --ar 1:1, --ar 4:5, --ar 9:16."
- Rewording the scene each time. The AI describes the scene differently in each prompt, so the 3 ads don't match. Try: Add: "Repeat the same scene description word for word."
- Forgetting Story overlays. The profile name and Shop button cover the product in the Story. Try: Add to the 9:16 one: "top and bottom 15% empty".
- Headings and notes. The AI labels each prompt with bold headings and tips. Try: Add: "Plain text, no headings, no notes."
What a strong prompt includes
- Asks for 3 prompts
- Gives each ratio
- Keeps the scene identical
- Protects the Story overlays
- Adds exclusions
