About this exercise

You're building Monday's collection call list as of Nov 6, 2026. Write a prompt for exactly 3 numbered lines formatted "1. Customer - $amount - N days past due" in priority order (most days past due first), then a last line starting "Excluded:" naming each customer left off and why. Customers in an open dispute or not yet due are excluded. Plain text, under 90 words. Do not mention the sales rep or his request.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Calling the disputed account. The AI puts Brightwell on the list because it has the largest balance. Try: Add: "Leave out customers in an open dispute."
  • Sorting by amount. The AI ranks by balance, not days past due. Try: Say: "Priority: most days past due first."
  • Missing the Excluded line. The AI drops Brightwell and Pine Ridge silently. Try: Add: 'A last line "Excluded:" naming each customer and the reason.'
  • Wrong shape. The AI writes a table with bold. Try: Say: "Exactly 3 numbered lines starting with 1."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each line short.

What a strong prompt includes

  • Shows the line format
  • Sets the priority
  • Excludes disputes and not-due
  • Asks for the Excluded line
  • Ignores the rep
