About this exercise
You're settling a cash advance after a trip. Write a prompt for plain text with lines starting "Advance:", "Submitted:", "Accepted:" and "Owed to company:", each with the math. Accepted expenses are only those with receipts attached. Don't count receipts that will arrive later. Under 60 words. No bullets or numbering.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Accepting the unreceipted meals. The AI accepts all $902.30 and shows $97.70 owed. Try: Say: "Accepted = submitted minus expenses without receipts."
- Waiting for the receipts. The AI says the $60 may be accepted next week. Try: Add: "Do not mention Kim's note about receipts arriving later."
- Missing the math. The AI gives amounts with no subtraction. Try: Say: "Show the math on Accepted and Owed to company."
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each line short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the four lines
- Excludes unreceipted expenses
- Shows the subtraction
- Bans the note
- Caps length
