Alert sales to a competitor's price change, facts only

Practice: Catching mistakes and made-up facts. About 5 minutes.

About this exercise

A competitor changed its pricing, and you're alerting the sales team in Slack. Write exactly 3 lines labeled What changed:, What it means:, and What to say:, plain text, under 75 words. Use only what's confirmed on the competitor's pricing page, leave out the rumors, and never criticize the competitor.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Asking for 'a competitive update'. The AI writes a long brief with headings, analysis and rumors. Try: Show the shape: "3 lines labeled What changed:, What it means:, What to say:. Plain text."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line instead: "each line under 22 words."
  • Missing the real comparison. The AI compares base prices only and forgets the reminders add-on. Try: Add: "Compare $50 (their Basic + reminders) with our $39 including reminders."
  • Repeating rumors or trash talk. The acquisition rumor is juicy, and AI writes punchy comparisons. Try: Add: "Only confirmed facts. No rumors. Respectful, no criticism."
