About this exercise
You're accruing unpaid October wages. Write a prompt for plain text with lines starting "Working days:", "Daily wages:", "Wages accrual:", "Employer taxes:", "Total accrual:" and "Entry:". Count only weekdays after the last pay period end through Oct 31. Show the math on every line except Entry. Entry gives the debit and credit accounts. Under 100 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Counting Saturday. The AI counts Oct 31 as a working day. Try: Say: "Count weekdays only, Oct 26 to Oct 30."
- Adding the bonus. The AI includes the March bonus or contractors. Try: Add: "Only biweekly gross wages and the 8% employer cost."
- Skipping the daily rate. The AI jumps to a total. Try: Add: "Show the daily rate as $84,000 / 10."
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each part short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the six lines
- Limits to weekdays
- Asks for the math
- Names the accounts
- Caps length
