Pull rev-rec facts from a contract and list questions
- For Accountants

About this exercise
You're a revenue accountant preparing a fact pack on a new contract. Write a prompt for a plain-text note with exactly three labeled lines: "Facts:", "Amounts:" and "Questions:". Quote clause numbers. Do not conclude how or when revenue should be recognized, and don't say whether items are distinct. The Questions line has exactly three questions for the controller. Under 150 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Concluding rev-rec treatment. The AI says the onboarding is distinct or revenue is ratable. Try: Say: "Do not conclude how or when revenue is recognized."
- No clause references. The AI paraphrases without clause numbers, so the controller can't find the text. Try: Ask: "Quote clause numbers for each fact."
- Missing the amounts math. The AI lists totals without the 24-month arithmetic or overage rate. Try: Add: "Show $90,000 / 24 months as arithmetic only."
- Too many questions. The AI writes a long open-ended list. Try: Say: "Exactly three numbered questions."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each line short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Lists the labels
- Cites clause numbers
- Blocks conclusions
- Asks for exactly 3 questions
- Sets length
