About this exercise
You're allocating one shared vendor invoice. Write a prompt for a markdown table with columns Cost center | Percent | Amount, one row per cost center, then a line starting "Check:" showing the three amounts add to the invoice total. Round each amount to the cent. If the rounded amounts don't add to the total, adjust the largest share by the difference and say so in the Check line. No other commentary. Under 80 words. No bullets or numbering.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the proposed 20%. The AI follows Admin's request and splits 40/35/20. Try: Say: "Use the agreed 40/35/25, not the proposed change."
- Rounding drift. The AI rounds loosely and the amounts don't add up. Try: Add: "Round to the cent and adjust the largest share if needed."
- No check. The AI skips the proof that the total ties. Try: Add: 'One line "Check:" with the addition.'
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each line short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the columns
- Uses agreed percentages
- Gives the rounding rule
- Asks for the check line
- Limits output
