Brief an assistant to assign group project tasks fairly
- For College students
- You practice Giving the right context
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You're using an AI assistant in your group's project board. Write its brief: assign each task to whoever claimed it in the group chat with a due date of Dec 4, send any task claimed by two people or by no one to you with ASK_HUMAN, never write any project content itself (it's graded work), and never message the group. Output exactly 7 numbered plain-text lines: one per task in board order, then DONE.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not showing the log format. Left alone, the AI writes a friendly report with headings instead of a checkable action log. Try: Show it literally: "Format every line like 1. ACTION: tool(args), then ASK_HUMAN: and DONE: lines. Plain text."
- No rule for assigning. The AI balances the work its own way and ignores who claimed what, or picks its own dates. Try: Add: "Assign each task to whoever claimed it in the chat, due Dec 4."
- No rule for conflicts. When two people claim a task, the AI just picks one. Try: Add: "If two people or no one claimed a task, ASK_HUMAN."
- Letting it do the work. Given write_content, the AI drafts graded sections, which isn't allowed. Try: Add: "Never write project content or message the group."
What a strong prompt includes
- Uses the chat sign-ups
- Sets the due date
- Handles conflicts
- Keeps the writing yours
- Shows the action-log format
