Brief an agent to assemble a clean shift handoff note
- For Customer support teams
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You want an AI agent to build the end-of-shift handoff note. Write its brief: include only tickets that are still open, put P1 tickets first, give each its ticket ID and next step, never include customer emails or phone numbers, and save the note without posting it. Output exactly 5 numbered plain-text lines: one add_item per open ticket (P1 first, then by ticket number), save_note, then DONE.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not showing the log format. Left alone, the AI writes a friendly report with headings instead of a checkable action log. Try: Show it literally: "Format every line like 1. ACTION: tool(args), then ASK_HUMAN: and DONE: lines. Plain text."
- No filter or order. The AI lists every ticket in log order, closed ones included. Try: Say: "Only open tickets, P1 first, then by ticket number."
- Leaking customer details. The AI copies emails and phone numbers into a shared note. Try: Add: "Ticket ID and next step only. No emails or phone numbers."
- Letting it post. Given post_note, the AI posts to the channel before you check it. Try: Add: "Save the note, never post it."
What a strong prompt includes
- Only open tickets
- Puts P1 first
- Keeps contact info out
- Saves, doesn't post
- Shows the action-log format
