Brief an assistant to set a carpool schedule with a booster rule
- For Parents and households
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You coordinate a soccer carpool and want an AI assistant to assign drivers. Write its brief: Ari (age 5) rides every practice and needs a booster seat, which only the Lee and Garcia families have, so only they may drive; each driver must be available that day; any practice with no eligible driver goes to you with ASK_HUMAN; and it never messages the group. Output exactly 6 numbered plain-text lines: one per practice in order, then DONE.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not showing the log format. Left alone, the AI writes a friendly report with headings instead of a checkable action log. Try: Show it literally: "Format every line like 1. ACTION: tool(args), then ASK_HUMAN: and DONE: lines. Plain text."
- Leaving out the safety rule. The AI spreads driving evenly, including families with no booster. Try: Add: "Ari needs a booster. Only Lee and Garcia may drive."
- Following the group chat. A friendly offer to squeeze Ari in looks like a solution to the AI. Try: Add: "If no eligible driver is free, ASK_HUMAN."
- Letting it message. The AI posts the schedule to the group before you check it. Try: Add: "Never message the group. End with DONE."
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the booster rule
- Limits the drivers
- Checks availability
- Forbids messaging
- Shows the action-log format
