Brief an agent to import trade show leads cleanly
- For Sales and customer success
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
About this exercise
You want an AI agent to import badge scans from a trade show into the CRM. Write its brief: skip students and competitors (competitor domains: routewise.com, fleetmatic.io), send anyone already in the CRM to you with ASK_HUMAN instead of importing a duplicate, tag every import TradeShow-Nov26, and never enroll anyone in an email sequence. Output exactly 7 numbered plain-text lines: one per scan in order (a skip gets a skip line), then DONE.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Not showing the log format. Left alone, the AI writes a friendly report with headings instead of a checkable action log. Try: Show it literally: "Format every line like 1. ACTION: tool(args), then ASK_HUMAN: and DONE: lines. Plain text."
- No tag rule. The AI imports with no tag or makes one up, so you can't find the list later. Try: Say: "Tag every import TradeShow-Nov26."
- Not naming who to skip. The AI imports students and a competitor's rep. Try: Add: "Skip students and competitor domains. Existing contacts go to ASK_HUMAN."
- Letting it start emails. Marketing's note makes the AI enroll everyone in a sequence. Try: Add: "Never enroll anyone in a sequence."
What a strong prompt includes
- Sets the tag
- Skips students and competitors
- Checks for duplicates
- Forbids sequences
- Shows the action-log format
