About this exercise

You're 15 and want a weekend counter job at a local bakery that posted a sign. Get an email under 90 words, plain text, with a first line "Subject: Weekend counter job - Leo Park". Give your exact availability, which only you know: Saturdays 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays after 11 a.m. Be honest that this would be your first job, and sign off exactly "Thank you, Leo Park".

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Leaving out your hours. The AI can't know your schedule, so it writes 'I'm available on weekends' or skips it. Try: Add: "I can work Saturdays 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. and Sundays after 11 a.m."
  • Letting the AI inflate you. The AI tries to sound impressive and may claim experience you don't have. Try: Add: "This is my first job. Don't claim food service experience."
  • No subject line. The AI often skips the subject or writes 'Job Application' with no name. Try: Add: "First line: Subject: Weekend counter job - Leo Park"
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total and it often lands 20% over. Try: Cap each part: "3 short paragraphs, each 1 or 2 sentences under 16 words."
  • Forgetting where it's going. AI adds bold and headings that show up as stray symbols in an email. Try: Add: "Plain text, no bold, no headings."

What a strong prompt includes
