Introduce yourself to a new contact after the champion leaves
- For Customer success managers
- You practice Giving the right context
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Write an email to Pete Alvarez, the new Director of Operations at Cobalt Works. Line 1 is "Subject:" with 7 words or fewer. Exactly 3 sentences, plain text: who you are, one result from the notes, and a request for a 20-minute call between Nov 16 and Nov 20. Do not guess his priorities. Last line exactly "Leah, Customer Success".
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Guessing his priorities. The previous CSM's note suggests cost focus and the AI adopts it. Try: Say: "Do not guess his priorities."
- Missing the specific ask. The AI asks to 'connect soon'. Try: Say: "Ask for 20 minutes between Nov 16 and Nov 20."
- Wrong subject or sign-off. The AI writes a long subject and signs 'Warm regards'. Try: Give the limits and the exact last line.
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
- Sets the ask and window
- Bans guessing
