Write an expansion brief for the AE with three headings

About this exercise

Write a brief for the account executive, Sam, with exactly three headings in order: Why now, Evidence, Risks. Evidence uses only usage numbers in the notes. Risks must include the procurement freeze. Plain text, under 110 words.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Following the AE's urgency. The draft note says close this month, but there is a freeze. Try: Say: "Include the freeze until Jan 15 under Risks."
  • Dropping the math. The AI states a price without showing it. Try: Ask: "Show 12 x $360 = $4,320."
  • Wrong sections. The AI writes a narrative. Try: Name the three headings in order.
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".

What a strong prompt includes

  • Asks for plain text
  • Sets a length limit
  • Names headings
  • Mentions the freeze
