Ask a sponsor for one decision with a default if no answer

  • For Customer success managers
  • You practice Setting limits and rules
  • Time about 5 minutes
  • Level Beginner

About this exercise

Write an email to Mr. Haddad. Line 1 is "Subject:" with 7 words or fewer. Ask for one decision, state the default we will take if we hear nothing by Nov 14, and keep it under 90 words, plain text. Last line exactly "Bea, Customer Success".

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Missing the default. The AI asks for a decision but leaves the deadline open. Try: Say: "State the default and the Nov 14 date."
  • No recommendation. The AI lists options and no pick. Try: Say: "Recommend B."
  • Long subject or sign-off. The AI writes a long subject and 'Best'. Try: Give the limits and the exact last line.
  • Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".

What a strong prompt includes
