Fill a goodwill log entry with a policy-capped credit
- For Customer support teams
- You practice Keeping the AI to your sources
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Fill the goodwill log entry with exactly five lines starting "Date:", "Customer:", "Credit:", "Reason:" and "Approved by:". Credit shows the math and uses the policy cap. Approved by follows the approval rule. Plain text, under 45 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the customer's ask. Jon asked for $50 and the AI records it. Try: Say: "Credit = 10% of order value, capped at $20."
- Listing the team lead. Rita's note mentions Priya, so the AI writes her as approver. Try: Say: "Within $20 the agent approves: write Self."
- Wrong layout. The AI writes a paragraph. Try: Name the five labels.
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
