Write a feature-request macro that makes no roadmap promise
- For Customer support teams
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Write a macro of exactly three sentences, plain text. Use the merge fields {{first_name}} and {{feature}} and no others. Sentence 1 thanks the customer and names {{feature}}. Sentence 2 says it is not planned right now and gives the workaround. Sentence 3 says the request is logged and gives no date.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Copying the old macro. The old macro promises next quarter and uses {{customer}}. Try: Say: "Not planned. No dates. Fields {{first_name}}, {{feature}} only."
- Skipping the workaround. The AI says no and stops. Try: Add: "Give the high-contrast workaround."
- Wrong length. The AI writes a five-sentence reply. Try: Say: "Exactly three sentences."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Letting the sentences run on. The AI writes as many sentences as it likes. Try: Name the cap: "at most N sentences".
What a strong prompt includes
- Asks for plain text
- Caps the sentences
- Names the fields
- Bans promises
