Check six orders against a tiered return policy
- For Customer support teams
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Check the six orders against the policy. Output a table with the header row exactly "Order | Result | Why" and six rows. Result is exactly one of Refund, Store credit or None. Why is 4 words or fewer. Count day 30 and day 60 as inside their windows. Plain text, table only, under 80 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Rounding day 30. The agent's comment tempts the AI to give credit for O-2. Try: Say: "Day 30 counts as inside the refund window."
- Missing the exceptions. The AI ignores the final-sale and opened-software rules. Try: Say: "Final-sale and opened software are never returnable."
- Long reasons. The AI writes sentences in the Why column. Try: Say: "Why: 4 words or fewer."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes

- Sets a length limit
