Make a weekend hand-off checklist from open tickets
- For Customer support teams
- You practice Asking for a format you can use
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Beginner
About this exercise
Your shift ends Friday and Kofi covers the weekend. Write a checklist of open tickets only, sorted by due time, earliest first. Each line starts with "[ ]", then the ticket number, then one action of 10 words or fewer. Plain text, under 100 words.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Listing every ticket. The AI includes resolved and closed tickets to be complete. Try: Say: "Open tickets only."
- Keeping board order. The AI lists tickets by number, not by when they are due. Try: Say: "Sort by due time, earliest first."
- Writing bullets and paragraphs. The AI uses dashes, bold and extra advice instead of a checklist. Try: Show the line: "[ ] T-2207 action..."
- Getting markdown back. AI adds bold and headings by default, which show up as stray symbols where this is pasted. Try: Say "plain text, no bold, no headings, no asterisks".
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and usually runs long, so a vague "keep it short" lands well over the limit. Try: Cap each part instead of the total, for example "each line under 15 words".
What a strong prompt includes
- Asks for plain text
- Sets a length limit
- Sets the sort order
- Shows the line format
