Write a 90-second spoken QBR opening with one number per beat
- For Executives
- You practice Saying who it's for
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
Write the opening you will say aloud at the quarterly business review, plain text, 6 sentences, under 110 words. Sentence 1: the headline result with its number. Sentences 2-3: one thing that worked, with a number. Sentences 4-5: one thing that did not work, with a number. Sentence 6: the single ask. Use the corrected numbers, say no quarter-over-quarter percentages, and avoid the words robust and strong.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Using the inflated number. The AI says 109%. Try: Say: "Use the clean 104%."
- Skipping the bad news. The AI only reports wins. Try: Say: "Sentences 4-5: one thing that did not work with a number."
- Weak ask. The AI ends with 'we look forward to your support'. Try: Say: "Sentence 6: approve 2 hires by Oct 15."
- Wrong sentence count. The AI writes 9 sentences. Try: Say: "Exactly 6 sentences."
- Markdown. The AI adds headings. Try: Say: "Plain spoken text."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each sentence: "each under 18 words."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 12 words."
