About this exercise

Post a Slack status for your three projects in plain text, no emojis, under 70 words. Exactly 3 lines in the form Project: COLOR - one reason. Use the rule: Red = a date was missed; Amber = a date is at risk; Green = on track. Then a last line starting "Ask:" with one request. Use the latest information.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Using the old status. The AI marks Maple Amber from the early note. Try: Say: "The design review was approved Wednesday; Maple is green."
  • Wrong rule. The AI marks Orchid Amber because the release holds. Try: Say: "Red = a date was missed."
  • Vague ask. The AI writes 'need support'. Try: Say: "Ask: Lena to decide on the library upgrade before Nov 15."
  • Wrong layout. The AI writes paragraphs. Try: Say: "Three lines then Ask:"
  • Emojis and bold. The AI adds colored emojis. Try: Say: "Plain text, no emojis."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each line: "each line under 15 words."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 12 words."
