About this exercise

Write a decision request for the steering committee in plain text under 170 words. Headings on their own lines: Decision needed, Options, Recommendation, Risks if we choose it, By when. Options lists exactly two choices with cost and date. Recommendation names one. Risks lists two risks drawn only from the notes. Do not state a probability that is not in the notes.

Common mistakes when you ask AI for this

  • Using the guessed probability. The AI quotes 30%. Try: Say: "No probability that isn't in the notes."
  • Risks of the wrong option. The AI lists risks of A. Try: Say: "Risks if we choose the recommended option."
  • Missing headings. The AI writes a narrative. Try: Say: "Use the five headings in order."
  • Missing costs and dates. The AI says 'cheaper and faster'. Try: Say: "Give cost and date for each option."
  • Markdown. The AI bolds headings. Try: Say: "Plain text."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each section: "each section under 35 words."
  • Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting. Ask for a total word limit and it often lands over it. Try: Cap each part instead, for example: "each line under 12 words."
