Net the vacancy savings against backfill fees for three leavers
- For FP&A and financial analysts
- You practice Setting limits and rules
- Time about 5 minutes
- Level Intermediate
About this exercise
You're estimating the net salary effect of three resignations for the CFO. Write a prompt for plain text with lines starting "Each backfill:", "Two backfills:", "No backfill:" and "Net for the year:", each with the math. Use salary only (no benefits) and the 18% recruiter fee on backfills. Facts only: no advice on whether to backfill. Under 80 words. No bullets or numbering.
Common mistakes when you ask AI for this
- Counting the fee as savings. The AI nets only the vacancy savings and misses the recruiter fee. Try: Say: "Net = vacancy savings minus the recruiter fee (18% of annual salary)."
- Treating all three as backfilled. The AI applies the backfill math to Cho. Try: Add: "Cho is not backfilled: remaining months x monthly salary."
- Advising on Cho. The AI recommends backfilling or not. Try: Add: "Facts only. Do not say whether to backfill anyone."
- Markdown extras. The AI adds bold labels, headings and a closing note. Try: Say: "Plain text, no bold. Output only the lines asked for."
- Trusting the AI to count words. AI is bad at counting and runs past word limits. Try: Ask for fewer words than the real cap and keep each line short.
What a strong prompt includes
- Names the four lines
- Gives the fee
- Ignores benefits and severance
- Bans advice
- Caps length
